Burton Memorial Hall

The date stone for Burton Memorial Hall was laid on July 21, 1956, by James Caunt, esq., J.P., the editor of the Morecambe Visitor newspaper, who lived in Burton at the time. Fundraising for the Hall had begun 16 years before during the early days of the Second World War. A plaque inside bears the inscription: Burton Memorial Hall Built by public subscription in appreciation of the men and women of the parish who served in the defence of their country. Opened by C.W.I. Penrhyn-Hornby Esq., 18th May 1957.

The Memorial Hall has been extended since 1957 and now comprises the large main hall with stage, three meeting rooms, and several store rooms. It is one of the busiest village halls in the area, being used daily by groups ranging in age from toddlers to pensioners, and encompassing all forms of sports, leisure and recreation, as well as frequent fund-raising events. The Hall is licensed for music and dancing, the performance of plays and films, and the sale of alcohol at events.

The lighting in the main hall has been planned to national table tennis championship standards, and the main hall floor is marked out as a badminton court. Other facilities include 2 kitchens, 2 baby change facilities, a disabled toilet, hearing loops, hyper-fast WiFi (B4RN), and small children's toilets for under-5s.

The Hall is run by an annually elected management committee with a chair, vice-chair, treasurer, and a paid secretary/bookings manager, which holds bi-monthly management committee meetings. The current Hall secretary/manager is Mrs Helen Dawson who should be contacted for booking enquiries on 01524 782277.

Burton Memorial Hall is a charity registered in England and Wales, no. 505018.
